In addition to his legal career, Southard served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy until 1994, serving tours in Iraq and Somalia. He also supports a federally-run orphanage in Baguio City, Philippines – visiting the center each year, sending packages and resources for facility improvements, and sponsoring the annual “Thera-Free” event in Baguio City to provide therapy to children with developmental disorders.
