Noted Tax Attorney Joins CGS3

February 10, 2015 CGS3 CGS3 Team

Phil Jelsma to Concentrate on Joint Venture and Tax Law at Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson LLP

Feb. 10, 2015 (San Diego, CA) – Expanding its team of top commercial real estate attorneys, Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson LLP (CGS3) announced today the addition of veteran tax lawyer Phillip L. Jelsma as partner.

Most recently a partner at McKenna Long & Aldridge, Jelsma is widely recognized as one of the state’s leading joint venture and tax attorneys, with a nearly 30 year background in real estate exchange transactions, syndications, nonprofit corporations and international tax planning.

According to Tom Crosbie, one of CGS3’s founding partners, Jelsma’s considerable range of experience will enable the firm to provide a broader range of services – solidifying its status as a best in class commercial real estate firm.

“Phil’s expertise will allow us to better advise clients on the initial structuring of real estate developments and investments, as well as on workouts, dissolutions and reorganizations,” Crosbie said. “With a practice focused on limited liability company structuring and partnership business tax planning, he brings a depth of experience that is unmatched in California, and we are excited to have him join our team.”

In addition to his law practice, Jelsma serves as an adjunct professor specializing in tax law at the University of San Diego School of Law and also as an expert witness on partnership, LLC and family business disputes. He was with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP for 28 years and, prior to its acquisition by McKenna, a partner with Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps.

Jelsma said he was attracted to CGS3 for its innovative business model, collaborative approach and congenial work culture. “I’m looking forward to being part of a team that anticipates the needs of its clients and works closely with them to make sound decisions which help ensure success in both the short and long term.”

Jelsma earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.
